Working with Kids in Tow

Working with Kids in Tow

So, you've decided to take on the wild adventure of running a small business in a small town with your little ones by your side. Balancing work and family in rural Montana may seem like a daunting task, but fear not! With a sprinkle of creativity, a dash of patience, and a whole lot of love, you can make it work.

How do you find balance?

Finding balance when you have kids at work with you can be tricky, but it's not impossible. Set clear boundaries between work time and family time. Create a designated play area in your workspace to keep the little ones entertained while you tackle your tasks. We created a little tent area in the Mercantile for the kids to read, watch shows, play with legos, explore creativity, and so much more. They are nearby but have their own private space while I am able to work and help customers. Remember, it's okay to ask for help from your spouse, family, or friends when you need a breather.

What are the perks of having kids at work with you?

Having your kids at work with you can bring a sense of joy, spontaneity, and laughter to your day. They can inspire you with their creativity and remind you of the simple pleasures in life. Plus, you get to witness their growth and development firsthand, which is truly priceless. Embrace the chaos and cherish the moments spent together.

Running a small business with kids in tow in a small town may have its challenges, but it also offers unique opportunities for growth, connection, and fulfillment. Remember to take each day as it comes, stay flexible, and most importantly, enjoy the journey with your little ones by your side.
