When Seasons Change: Trusting God Through the Shifts in Business and Life

When Seasons Change: Trusting God Through the Shifts in Business and Life

For those who don’t know me, I’m the owner and maker behind Wolf Creek Mercantile; a home-based business here in Denton, Montana. I started this little venture with a big dream: to create custom, meaningful products for both small businesses and individuals who love things made with care. What began as a local shop in town has now grown into a full online business, and let me tell yo, it’s been quite the journey to get here.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that life doesn’t always stay where you thought it would. Sometimes God nudges (or flat-out pushes) you in a new direction, and it’s only later that you realize how perfectly it all fits together.

When I first opened my brick-and-mortar store, I had such big dreams. I wanted to create something special for our small town; a space that felt like home, where people could stop in, chat, and find something made with love. For two years, that shop was my world. I poured my heart into it; long days, late nights, and lots of coffee. And I loved every minute of it.

But over time, I started to notice things shifting. My customers were shopping more online, and life at home was calling a little louder. Between family, faith, and the daily juggle of running a small business, I could feel God whispering that it might be time for something new.

Let me be honest, I didn’t want to hear it at first. I loved that store. It felt like my baby! But I also knew that when God starts stirring something in your heart, you can either fight it or follow it. And after a lot of prayer (and maybe a few tears), I decided to trust Him and make the leap.

So, about a year ago, I closed the doors to my physical shop and took Wolf Creek Mercantile completely online.

And wow! What a blessing that’s been.

Now I get to create from home, be more present with my family, and still serve my amazing customers, just in a new way. Whether it’s custom merchandise for a small business or one special order for someone who just loves handmade things, I still get to do what I love. It just looks a little different now.

This shift taught me something important: change doesn’t mean failure. Sometimes it’s simply God redirecting you to where you’re meant to be next.

If you’re in a season where life feels uncertain or you’re being nudged toward something new, take heart. It’s okay to shift. It’s okay to follow your customers, your family’s needs, and most importantly, where God is leading.

Because when you hand your plans over to Him, He has a beautiful way of turning what feels like an ending into a brand new beginning.
